Laurax is a visual artist, future arts educator, and aspiring busker, born and raised in South Minneapolis, Minnesota.
She is a current graduate student on track for a Masters of Education in visual arts education at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. She graduated from St. Olaf College in 2008 where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Studio Art and Women's Studies.
Previously, she worked as a visual arts specialist and special education assistant at Great River School in St Paul, Minnesota. She served in the United States Peace Corps as a Community Health Educator in Southern Cambodia from 2012 - 2014. Before her time in Cambodia, she worked at the nonprofit organization, Opportunity Partners, assisting people with brain injuries in a prevocational setting.
Laurax's art is composed of meticulously placed lines and dots with micron pens creating whimsical images ranging anywhere between beloved dogs and cats acting like humans to sea creatures to circus performers. She also likes to mix things up with mixed media (water colors, pastels, and collaging colorful papers) or getting really crazy with digital color imposed by computers and robots.
Laura welcomes commissions and/or collaborative art with arms so open she must detach her arms to demonstrate her true openness.
